Notes
a. Continued:   Information on Henry Harrison's children from Catherine Fair. In her notes she mentions a conflict among family members regarding the exact date of the marriage between Henry Harrison Burgess and Lucille Jane Becknell. A family Bible has the date as 1875. I believe this is correct. Lucinda Jane Becknell was first married to Jesse Perry. She is in the 1860 census of Pickens Co SC with him. In 1870, she is apparently a widow, still in Pickens Co SC with her children by Jesse Perry. In 1880, Lucinda Jane is in Union Co SC, recorded as divorced, with 2 of her children by Jesse Perry and 1 child by Henry Harrison Burgess.
Henry Harrison Burgess is unaccounted for in the 1870 census. His 3 eldest children were all born before 1870 and should have been in that census.
On the death certificate of William Thomas Burgess, his son, Luther Victor Burgess, knew the name of William's father but not the name of his mother. According to Catherine Fair's records, Lucinda Jane Becknell died in 1918. Luther Victor Burgess would have been about 17 years old. He should have known her.
Taken together, I believe that this indicates that Henry Harrison Burgess had a wife prior to Lucinda Jane Becknell and that she was the mother of the eldest children.
