Notes
a. Continued:   Death records for two of James Owens and Winnie's children (Esau & Jane) as well as William Burgess, show her maiden name to be Cureton or Curtin.
May have been the daughter of Robert Cureton. Winnie Cureton Burgess remarried to James Ownes sometime after the war, between 1865/1869. Although some researchers have their marriage date as 1862, this is not possible as William Burgess has been documented as still living as of Apr 11 1863. James Owens has been documented as present with his unit, Co I, 62nd Tenn, the same unit as William Burgess, through Apr 30 1863. In April of 1863, the 62nd was in Vicksburg MS. The siege began a couple of weeks later. James Owens is not listed among the prisoners of war nor the parolees released about Jul 10 1863. He may have been among the 1700 captured at the battle of Big Black River Bridge He next appears on Jul 20 1863 when he enlists with the Union Army in Illinois along with his brother, John Owens. According to a regimental history of the 58th, James and John Owens mustered out at Montgomery, AL on Aprl 1 1866, ordered to Springfield for final payment and discharge.
