Continued: The Spartanburg Herald-Journal, February 6, 1944 ELZIE T BURGESS Elzie T Burgess, 53, a wellknown resident of Cowpens, died at his home yesterday morning after an illness of several months. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Burgess, and four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Mae Brinkley of Union, Mrs. Essie Pharr of Union, Mrs. Ruby Crocker of Charleston, and Miss Mary Burgess of Cowpens; one son, Woodrow Burgess of Cowpens, a step-son Charles Gregory of U S Army, his mother, Mrs. Beddie Lee of Spartanburg, one brother, Joe Burgess of Clifton, five half-brothers, Jim Lee, David Lee, Boyd Lee, Wallace Lee and Charlie Lee, all of Spartanburg and by eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Cowpens Methodist church at 5 o'clock this afternoon by the Rev. J. G. Higgin. Burial will be in Cowpens cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Earl Hammett, Woodrow Porter, Clarence Doyle, Fred Burgess, Buford Thomas, and B. J. Scruggs. The body will be at the home in Cowpens. Arrangements are in charge of the M. W. Bobo Funeral chapel.
