a. Continued:   Joseph Burgess may be the son of Joseph Burgess and an unknown first wife or he may be the son of Joseph Burgess and his second wife, Elizabeth. Joseph may also be unrelated to Joseph (Sr). I have included him as a possible son of Joseph (Sr) because of his presence in Union Co and his claim of GA as his place of birth.
 Joseph Burgess has not been located in the 1820 or 1830 censuses. He may have been married and living with in-laws or simply missed. He appears in the 1840 census for Union Dist. SC, in the 1850 & 1860 census for Cocke Co TN. No record of Joseph's death or burial has been found.
  Also of interest.....In Joseph's 1840 census record is one free white female, purported to be aged 100 years or above. Would love to know who this is!
