 "Ambrose Meador (d.ca.1661/1663) immigrated from England to Warrisquicke (later Isle of Wight) County, Virginia before 1636, and moved about 1649 to Lancaster County, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia and elsewhere."

 "Thomas Meador (d.1655) immigrated from England to Jamestown, Virginia in the early 1630s, with a possible brother Ambrose Meador. Thomas settled in Isle of Wight County, and moved about 1650 to the north- east shore of the Rappahannock River (in present Richmond County). No supporting evidence has been found of the ancestry of Thomas in England, though many believe his ancestry lived in Suffolk County. "Within these three volumes are named more than 37,000 descendants of Thomas meador and their spouses, encompassing up to sixteen generations. Is this everyone descended from Thomas Meador? Certainly not ..."--Introduction (v.1, p. 1). Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, California and elsewhere."

 The first records of this name are in teh headright grants by the Governor of the Jamestown Colony, a Thomas Meades surrendered his headright grant of 50 acres to John Gater of Elizabeth City.
 Lancaster Co ,1853, he purchased 700 a from William Underwood - next to Milleck Creek, on modern maps, Islington Landing.

 6 Aug 1655, son Thomas petitions court to have William Underwood appointed his guardian. Ambrose Meador was one of the 4 men who appraised estate and one of 4 who were appointed to divide it. Ambrose could have been brother or cousin, he was much the same age as Thomas.
  BIOGRAPHY: Thomas Meador was born in 1612, England. He came to the new world in the 1630's using the headright system. Thomas settled on land about 50 miles north of Jamestown on a part of the Charles River, Northumberland, Lancaster, Rappahannock, and Essex counties as each was established. He married, and between 1635-37 Thomas Jr. was born. Thomas did well raising tobacco and paid passage for others claiming their land.
 Thomas married Sarah Unknown-[15048] [MRIN:4982] about 1635 in Virginia. (Sarah Unknown-[15048] was born about 1600 in England and died about 1655 in Virginia.)

  WILL: The last will and testament of Tho. Meads made the 5th day of March (54) Impnt. I do bequeath my body to the Earth & my soul to God that gave it. I do make my wife my sole & absolute Excr. I do give to my wife & Daughter Mary this plantation that I now live upon and all the land on this side of the Creek, and the ad. plantation not to be my Daughter�s �till after my wife�s decease. I do give to my tow sons, Tho & John Meads all the land that is on the west side of the Creek provided that they pay unto my two daughters Margaret & Joyce out of s. land two thousand pounds of tob. Cask at their day of marriage, and in case either of the [m] die that the sd. Tob. To belong to the survivor. I do give unto my wife & sons & my Daughters above mentioned all my goods and chattels after my debts are paid and that they shall be equally divided amongst them. I do give to my Daughter Ann� all the cattle that belonged to her which is about five head of cattle, and likewise I do unto her one shilling in money.
