a. Note:   Herman Silk was listed in the 1880 Census as a servant he was 17 years old.
  Herman Silk was a wealthy man he owned 3 farms. He loaned Henry Ford money to build his first car. They had a verbal agreement. His name is on the first car made. It is on display in Greenfield Village- Dearborn, MI. (sources; Betty Nowicki, Dale Silk & Ruth Silk)
  Thumb Deaths - Michigan News paper
 Memphis, Feb. 13 - Funeral services were held here at 2 P.M. for Herman Silk, 65, who died Saturday at Mt. Clements' Hospital where he had gone for treatment. The Serman was preached by Rev. G. M. Wood, burial was in the Memphis cemetery.
 Surviving are a widow and nine children; Merton Silk, Mrs. Fred Moore, and Misses Elsie and Annabell Silk of Memphis; William Silk, of Detroit; Mrs. William Frank of Marquette; Mrs. Jessie Chambers, Lewis Silk and John Silk, all of Sandusky.
 Mr Silk was born in Germany, Dec. 3, 1862. He came to Michigan when seven years of age. He had lived on a farm near Memphis many years. He also owned farms near Sandusky and Casco.
 Mrs. Silk died in 1921. Three years ago. Mr. Silk married Ms. Summer, of Armada.
