Sophia died of paralysis according to her death certificate. Age 67 years, 2 months and 27 days. Born in New York, father Seth Townsend, mother Duantha Hubbard both born in Michigan. Death 17 June 1902 in Marshall of paralysis Death Cert lists Seth Townsend and Duantha Hubbard as parents. Obituary in Marshall News dated 4 July 1902 �Mrs. Sophia Doud, the second daughter and fourth child of Mr. Seth and Mrs. Diatha Townsend, was born in Monroe Couty, NY March 20, 1835, came to Michigan with her parents when a babe in the year 1836, and they settled in Marengo township. She was married to Orrin Doud at Clarkesville, Ionia County this state in March 1897 [sic it was Feb] and departed this life over 67 years of age, after an illness of seven months at the home residence on the corner of Prospect and Linden streets June 17th, 1902. when the funeral was held June 21 attended by her relatives and numerous friends. She moved from the farm house in Marengo to Marshall in April 1899 [sic] and was in business in Milwalkee [sic], Wis., for sixteen years, returning to Mich. In 1884 to care for others who needed her sisterly presence. She leaves a husband, three sisters, and three brothers besides many other who will miss her sincere love, and friendship. Out from the family home there went before her the mother and father and three children. Her parents in belief were Universalist and she became a member of the Grace Universalist church of this city in April 1891. It can truly be written of her as a good woman, a devoted wife, a loving sister, a true friend and a kind neighbor. The missing and memory of her will tell the place she held in human hearts. It will bring earth and heaven closer together.�
