The funeral of John G.Baker was held from the residence of his brother, L. B. Baker, Sunday afternoon, July 2, at 2 o'clock. Rev. H. K. Steele, pastor of the Townville Methodist Episcopal church preached the funeral sermon, using as a text, "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." The Methodist Episcopal Church choir rendered the following humns: "Jesus Lover of My Soul", "Nearer, My God, to Thee", and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were Messrs. Edwin, Benjamin, Fred and E.A. Baker, W. H. Boss and Oscar Hickernell. Interment was made in the Townville cemetery by the side of the grave of his wife, who died April 18, 1898. John G. Baker, a son of John and Mary Baker, was born near Townville, Nov. 6, 1826, and died at Townville, June 30, 1905. In 1850 he was married to Willmina Doud and went to housekeeping on what is now known as the Gundaker farm. Mr. Baker was a carpenter by trade, making a specialty of stair building. For a number of years he was engaged in the hotel business at Townville and at Meadville. He also resided at Corry and at Chautauqua Lake, N.Y. Since the death of his wife in 1898, he has made his home with his brother, L. B. Baker. Mr. Baker was childless but a great lover of children. He was a man of good habits, hard working and industrious, but of a quiet, retiring disposition, yet friendly to those with whom he was intimately acquainted. A loving husband, he deeply felt the loss of his wife and since her death had been gradually failing. His death will be deeply felt by his relatives and many friends. He is survived by four brothers, L. B. of Townville; Leonard, of Edinboro; Alonzo, of Riceville, and Edward, of Chicago. Among those present at the funeral were Messrs. Leonard and Benjamin Baker, of Edinboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hickernell, of Saegertown.
