He is between 20-30 years old and is living with onefemale between the ages of 15 and 20.Hancock County, Indiana Court Records - Probate Order Book1828-1843Page 146: Jediah Eakes is confirmed as the administrator of theestate of Dudley Eakes. It was originally granted on August 6,1845 by the court in vacation. Granted again on August 11,1845. 1840 census: Jedidah is between 20-30 years old. The only otherperson in the household is a female between 15-20 - wife Mary is17 years old in 1840. This agrees with what we know about Mary.The 1850 census indicates that Jediah was born in 1822 - do wehave wrong date? All the dates of his children match the censusinformation. No, maybe the wrong Jediah because Madison County,Indiana death records confirms that he died on the day indicatedand at the age or 45 years, 4 months and 11 days which confirmshis birthdate.In Richman's "History of Hancock County, 1916" it says, "Atannery was established by Dudley Eaks in the northern part ofsection 36, township 17, range 6, probably in the latterthirties or earlier 1840s, and one was established at Lewisburgby John Price....."Binford's "History of Hancock County, 1882" states, "Very earlyin the history of the township, Dudley Eakes run a tannery inthe south-west part of the township, on Leander Robert's farm.His vats consisted of large troughs made of walnut."
