a. Note:   rried Elizabeth McCoy and was buried in Bound Brook in 8 Sep 1747. Perhaps my Joseph Ross named his firth daughter Elizabeth after his mother Elizabeth McCoy?
  There is also a Joseph Ross son of Joseph Ross of Piscataway, Middlesex, NJ.
  Captain Joseph Ross appeared in Sullivan County as early as 1755, whereas Joseph Ross was in Bridgewater in 1757, 1759, and in 1765 was sued there (but failed to show up in court - had he moved to NY or simply chosen not to show?). Robert Ross, who wrote "The Ross Family of New Jersey" (819 pages) treats them as two different people but acknowledges that they might be one. I'm going to err on the side side which argues that a person cannot be in two places at the same time and assume there are two people.
