 May 18, 1957
One of the saddest days of my life. Bill called me about 7 p.m. and told me that Merle had shot hiself. At first I could hardly believe it but then as Bill talked I realized that Merle was really dead. It's so hard to believe that he would just deliberately kill himself but only God will ever know. (My son a suicide.) I feel so sorry for Kay and those three little kids. Only wish I had the means to care for them as as they will need to be. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. May 22. Sure dread to see that day dawn but somehow I must face it.
 May 20, 1957
Went to the funeral parlor(Mclaughlins) this afternoon. I've put it off as long as I can so about 4 p.m. I started down town and stopped to leave the key with Jim. For the first time I looked at Merle. I thot I couldn't take it but God only puts on you shoulders what you can bear so with his help I'll be able to carry on. I still can"t believe that Merle would take his own life. He was so good and kind and too young to die in this manner. Feel so sorry for Kaye, Johnnie, Russel and little Chrisy. God be kind to all of them.
May 22, 1957 This is Merle's funeral day. How I dread it, for today I must really give him up. He's to be burried in the National Cemetary close by his father. Kay is really giving him a nice buriel. He had a lot of friends. he funeral parlor has been packed and the room is full of beautiful flowers. It's a help to know that when you are so grieved that your friends care. Good friends and prayer will help but I don't believe I will ever get over it.

Man Found Shot To Death in Home
Merle Adams, 32, an ice cream company employe, was found fatally wounded at 3:30 p.m. yesterday in the bedroom of his home at 1614A South Eighteenth Street.
His wife, Mrs. Barbara Adams, told police they had an argument and that he then walked into the bedroom. She heard a shot and ran to the room, finding Adamson the floor with a bullet wound to the right temple. A pistol with one discharged cartridge was beside the body.
