Notes
a. Note:   Went by "David Griffin" as well as OD...OD was used most often to differentiate him from his father.
  BIBLE RECORDS:
In my possession: Original 1848 family bible of Owen D. Griffin. His name is recorded as "Oen"
 The inside cover is inscribed:
  Mary B. Griffin
 David Griffin
 unreadable word
 OD Griffin (Oen David)
-two initial below that W W (probably John WIlliamson Wood - father in law)
 almost illegible "Love"
 David
I believe this bible was a wedding gift from Mary and David to OD (Oen David) and his wife Catherine Wood. The initals W W are her father's initials and there are other non legible signatures on the page...(other family members)
So, based on this, I am assuming Oen's parents were David Griffin and Mary B.
Further research reveals that this David Griffin and Mary B. are David A. Griffin and Mary B. Mahan.
*** Owen David was born almost 1 year exactly before his parents were married. Some folks say therefore Mary and David cannot be his parents. However, the bible proves they were. Now I suppose it is possible that David Anthony Griffin could have had another wife before Mary who died in childbirth..I suppose that is possible but regardless it would appear if that were the case that Mary and David raised Owen together as he would have only been 1 year old...so if Mary is not is biological mother...she was certainly the only mother he ever knew.

  BIOGRAPHY
Owen David Griffin was born in Heard Cty GA in 1826 and is the son of Benjamin Griffin and Mary Mahan. This was determined by the inscription on the cover of the 1847 bible which was signed by both his parents and the father of his bride, Catherine Elizabeth Wood. He married Catherine Wood and moved with his wife and family to Texas by 1852 and had 10 children . He was a farmer/tanner. He listed land owned/valued at 750.00 and personal estate of 300.00.
