John Wilmot MacDonald's, (who married Sadie) daughter, Hyrel, wrote in a letter several years ago in which she stated that when her father was very young the family had moved to she thought Michigan. (Actually it was Wisconsin Robin's note: from Nova Scotia where he was born). He had left home as a young lad of 14 and went to work in the wheat fields in Manitoba, Canada. From there he drifted down to Montana and settled there. At first he worked in a lumber mill driving a team of horses. Then he went prospecting. After he married he went into law enforcement... was constable at Superior and then later Deputy Sheriff in Shoshone County in Idaho for many years until he came to California in 1922. One by one his brothers came to Montana after he did ...then his parents and sisters came so finally the whole family lived there in western Montana.
