Note: s of school, Doug skipped class & hid out all day until school let out. According to his brother Don, Doug was big but uncoordinated and tended to stumble a lot. Doug fought with hid Dad once he became a teenager & stayed with Albert & Alene Dietrick quite often. Doug quit school after his sophomore year & left home about the time his parents divorced. In 1953, Doug entered the Army & was stationed in Korea. He later told an unconfirmed story of having killed a man with a knife in a bar fight in Seoul Korea. Doug's first wife was Roberta, whom he soon divorced. He became a truck driver and later married Roxann, who was his wife until he died. As he could have no biological children, they adopted two daughters and a son. Doug was about 6 feet tall and over 200 pounds as an adult, and later grew a heavy beard. He was known as good natured, loved to joke and laugh, and was prone to drink. At about age 50, Doug began to experience pain in his groin. After some time passed, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread. He died at age 51. His widow, Roxanne, still lives (as far as is known) in their home in Foots Creek, Oregon.
