Letter from Robert to Ireland, typed as written. Mr. Robert Bickett, Elmvale, Co., of Simcoe, Canada West, America Dear Friends: I inform you a little of our situation here at present time. We have 70 Acres cleared and near all the stumps out of 40 of it and never owned any so good as the greatest part of it. We grow as great crops of wheat, Barley, oats and peas, potatoes as you as ever you grew, but not so many of them. I have a good young Orchard beginning to bear, One Red Crab, but four years planted this year it bore 4 bushels and some given away to friends. Our stock consists 5 horses, 4 cows, a yoke of oxen, 3 heifers and a bull, 13 sheep and 6 hogs. My taxes on that property is 11 dollars. Wages have been very high 1 dollar per day throughout the summer and 75 cents or 3 lbs. 7p. The Mrs wants to know particularly how Robert (son) is and where(?) No. Here? But remains, your sincere old friends, Robert and Jane Bickett Co., of Simcoe, Canada West, Elmvale July 7/9(?) 1874 Dear John and William and Familys: Although my silence has premonition(?) between us, I write you a few lines preparing(?) you to know that we are all well here at present. Thank God for his mercies to us, hoping these lines will find you all enjoying the same which is the greatest blessing that man has in this earthly demain. And next I would wish to hear how my sisters are Mary, Margaret and Elenor. I have heard very little about them since I left Ireland, let me know particularly how McJaines(?) Balanie(?) and his son is. I would like to hear a little from my good old neighbors, Thomas Mukkington(? ), John Hayes(?), George Hokinshys(?), family, Robert Mcays/Hays(?), John McKonkie, Henry McHenry and many others I think of in my spare hours and (?) still be glad how well they all be. Tell William we have a great many times over election here but they are all over now and the Reform party is noble(?) for the conservatives by Bribery and the old spite of the Scotch and most of the Irish. I get news from Great Britain and Ireland every week giving the principle affairs. I am happy to hear the Conservative Members uncreasing and long may it continue. You have a new landlord and new regulations. I hope for the better. I seen it the time of the Law suit and found Mr. Richard Wallace the heir to the Marquis of Heartford(Hertford) Estates and still more I think a little of my own property left me by my Father. I hope you or either of you will be so kind as see in the (?) office that the rent be not let in arrears so as it inquire the lease and give me trouble to get my share. I have often thought of going over to Ireland if I should outlive Mary and see all my Friends and old neighbors and dispose of that spot myself as my brother William is dead 14 years ago in the state of Illinois leaving the place justly mine at Mary's decease. So if you would think of buying it, send me a proposal of what you might give for it. although I am far distant I can see the value of it and would give it to you sooner than a stranger. I suspect I can soon get a purchaser. STEPHEN FRENCH and EMMA BECKETT: Marriage: April 04, 1906, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
