Carpenters and Builders. Beckett, Wm. 40 Virgin Alley. John Breidenthal Sr., of Louisville, Ky., died at the residence of his son, Mr. H. Breidenthal, in this city, at 4:30 Thursday morning, May 6, in the 78th year of his age. He had been failing for several months, age having at last overcome his robust frame and rugged constitution. His death was painless, the machine was simply run down. The remains were taken to Louisville, Friday night, accompanied by H. Breidenthal of this city; Harry Breidenthal of Sumner; and Samuel Breidenthal, of Evansville, sons of the deceased; and the funeral took place from the Trinity M. E. Church of Louisville, at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. The burial took place in Cave Hill, where the family owns a beautiful lot. Mr. Breidenthal was born April 10, 1809 in Bedford C., Penn. He was of Ger man descent, ( son of Henry Breidenthal of Darmstadt-transcriber's note) During his early life he followed farming, but abandoned this for teaming, in which he amassed a great deal of money, for many years controlling all the 'bus lines of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania After leaving the latter city, he removed to Louisville where he organized the Louisville Transfer Co. with which he was long engaged. He was twice married, first to Racheal Woodcock, who soon died leaving no children. He next married Ellen Beeler, who bore him seven children, and who died some eight or ten years ago. Five of the children survive: Hezekiah of Vincennes, Ind. John Matthews of Louisville, Post Office. Mrs. Maggie Beckett of Pittsburg. Samuel of Evansville. All are married but Samuel. Mr. Breidenthal has 19 living grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He never held public office, his inclinations running in the other directions. He was a life time Methodist. He died full of years and the fair honors of a well-spent life. Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette Thursday, October 25, 1877 Beckett- killed by the P. M. K, at Koup's Station, Oct., 23, 1877. W. M. Beckett, son-in-law of John Breidenthal, in the 46th year of his life. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral ( ?) at his late residence at Homewood, F. H. H. this Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. It was said, William had six grandsons who served in World War I: One Rambo, Two Derricks, Two Lewis and a William.
