 Subject: A. H. Bickett J.F.Bickett Pocket Diary
I am happy to have tracked you down! I understand you are very interested in info etc on the Beckett, (Bickett) Family and I have research(ed) this through roots web. I have just listed a small pocket diary on ebay that you or another family member may be interested in- It is a diary probably belonging to, think it belonged to "John F. BICKETT b: 30 DEC 1884 in Mt Ayr, Ringgold Co., Iowa" Anyway it is from 1907 and lists the owner as J F Bickett and in case of Emergency notify A H Bickett and both are from Mt Ayr, Iowa, It is charming and lists his various clothing sizes and even the model # of the watch he carried. By the was on Dec 30, 1906 he weighed 135 pounds! Only about 1/4 of the pages are written in, mostly notes regarding railroads and references to areas of the US and reading and review assignments, there is a photo of a young boy within the pages and an interesting hand written riddle as well. "If it takes 7 cats 7 minutes to kill 7 rats how many cats will it take to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes". This book was found here in Colorado in the estate of "Martin Deuth" ( see obit to follow). Anyway, I have a similar book from my Grandfather and I adore mine- I am sure someone within the family will want this! You can check it out on ebay.com by entering this number or search terms in the search box 180005174649 & yes, I can easily ship to Ireland.
By the way I think I found more info for your site-- I think this is how it all fits-- It was found at the Martin John Deuth Estate (Obit to follow)
His brother was John E. Deuth, (possibly married to Barbara ? Bickett ? daughter of John F Bickett, Barbara Bickett? Deuth? survives.
 Thanks for your time!

AVON Martin John Deuth, 91, Avon, passed away May 1, 2006, following a battle of several years with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Martin was born May 24, 1914, and raised in Forreston, Ill. His father, John Frederick Deuth, owned and operated the local hardware store while his mother, Ethel Eakle Deuth, was a cook, seamstress and homemaker. Following graduation from high school, Martin attended DePauw University in Greencastle. He participated in sports, waited tables in one of the housing units, maintained a Rector Scholarship and obtained his bachelor of science degree in geology in 1936. From there he went to the University of Illinois and worked as a graduate student assistant while earning his master of science. He graduated in 1938. He worked as a geologist for Shell Oil Co. and was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Florida, The Netherlands, New York, Wyoming and Colorado. At age 55, after 30 years with Shell, he retired in 1968 as senior geologist.
Martin and Mary Jane Lewis of Gonzales, Texas, married in 1939 and had sons born in 1941 and 1945. The entire family made all the previously mentioned moves until sons, John and Allen, left home for college. In 1968, Martin and Mary moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where he taught geology at Steven F. Austin University for 17 years. He retired from this second career as a professor emeritus at age 72 but remained in Nacogdoches until the end of 2003. At that time he and Mary Jane moved to Avon where they have been near son John and his family.
During his lifetime, Martin was an avid reader and student of virtually any subject; especially geology, the Civil War, World War II, politics and horticulture. He always maintained an immaculate yard and had a gorgeous rose garden for over 30 years. Martin was also active in his Presbyterian Church as an elder and deacon. He spent many years actively involved in Boy Scouts as his sons participated in the same. He was an Explorer Scout advisor for several of those years. Additionally, he was very active in civic and community affairs as well as a member of several professional affiliations including the AIPG (charter member), AAPG, RMAC, Sigma X i, AIME and the SFA Faculty Senate. Martin's life is best summarized by his devotion to God, family and country, plus giving 100 percent to any endeavor he pursued while maintaining his integrity at all times.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane Lewis Deuth; sons, Allen L. and John B. Deuth; daughter-in-law, Elwanda Johnson Deuth; two grandsons, Kevin M. and Derek J. Deuth; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Marie, Katherine Claire, Amanda Nicole and Derek Jr. (residing in and around the Indianapolis area).
Additional survivors including his brother, John Eakle Deuth; sister-in-law, Barbara; and nieces, Deborah, Linda Deuth and Janet Deuth Bowers. Other surviving family members include the Jones family of Gonzales, Texas, ( John Paul, Jo, Paula, Tracey, Mary, John Paul II, Brittney, Brandy and John Daniel Whiteside). Additional family and close friends survive in the state of Illinois, Texas, Wisconsin, California, Florida and Indiana.
Visitation will be held Thursday at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, 106 Shaw St., Plainfield, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the SFASU Foundation-M.J. Deuth Scholarship Fund at Steven F. Austin University, Officer of University Advancement, P.O. Box 6092, Nacogdoches, TX 75962 or the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 N.W. Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494; or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation, 225 12 Gateway Center Drive, P.O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1950.
