Notes
a. Note:   H11
Note:   Actor, Entertainer (Used the stage names "Tommy Hayes" & "Stampy Hayes"). Played the "Bones & Glasses" in New York, London & the Fayes & Albee Theatre (Providence). Was one of the last of the country's old time "black face" performers. His versatility was shown in singing, dancing and in producing music from such novel contraptions as bones, glasses, cigar boxes and gas pipes. He performed with the celebrated Primrose and West minstrels and Vogel's minsrels. He boasted about having played at the Hippodrome in London. Most of his performances were at the Keith and the Albee Theatres in Providence.
"Tommy Hayes played a bone solo, glasses and dog biscuits. He would say, "I wonder are these dog biscuits good enough for my dog Prince?" and then proceed to "taste em" and they would turn out to be whistles on which he would play a tune. (From "Vaudeville from the Honky Tonks to The Palace", Joe Lurie Jr. 1953 Henry Holt & Co. New York. pg 66).
His extended trips on the road resulted in his divorce from Margaret. He developed a drinking problem later in life and died of a stroke at the State Infirmary at the age of 74.
Buried in the ALBEE PLOT at Swan Point Cemetary, Providence.
Somehow related (cousin?) to the Albee's (Albee Theatre).
