Note:   Clifton Arthur Jones was born on the farm on March 10, 1870. Clifton graduated from the Auburn College in agricultural chemistry in 1892. After his graduation he moved to Donaldson, Louisiana, where he engaged in the mercantile business until the death of his father, Thomas. Clifton returned to Auburn in 1914 and started a grocery business on Main Street, which is now named College Street. Clifton inherited the Jones Hotel and hired his brother, Byron, to manage and operate the hotel. Clifton began buying properties adjoining the Jones Hotel and eventually owned most of the entire block.
  Clifton was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Auburn and served as secretary-treasurer of its Sunday School for fifteen years. he was considered to be a man of exceptional business acumen. He was a bachelor.
  Shortly before he died, he arranged to leave much of his valuable business property to the First Baptist Church. The church rented out the various properties for years and sold it in 1978 for the sum of $250,000.
  Clifton died on November 12, 1943 in a hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, due to diabetes.
