Note:   Henry Jones was born on the farm in Opelika. He was three months old when the family moved to Auburn.
  He enlisted in the Spanish American War in the cavalry when he was sixteen years old and saw service in Cuba. His father, Thomas, managed with the help of a senator, to get him discharged from the army because he was under age.
  He later went to work at a railroad shop in Atlanta, Georgia as a machinist. In an accident, his right arm was caught in a machine and had to be amputated at the elbow. He entered the insurance field after that and worked in several cities in Florida before transferring to Newport News, Virginia.
  In 1920, he is listed in Census Records as living with his brother, Luther B. Jones, in Macon, Bibb Co., GA. He is 39 years old. The Census also notes that he was widowed -- so who was his previous wife?
  He married Miss Sara Pinson in her home town of Cross Hill, South Carolina, on December 2, 1921. They returned to Newport News and three years later moved to Florence, South Carolina. He worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and in 1930 was promoted to District Manager. he worked for Metropolitan for 29 years.
  Henry and Sara had three children: Henry, Jr., Sara Lee, and Reginald.
  Henry collapsed and died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrage on January 6, 1938.
  According to a local Florence newspaper: "He was friendly and neighborly to all who knew him; a sincere Christian gentleman, and a hard worker. He numbered his acquaintances by the hundreds."
  He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, a Mason, a member of the VFW, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Florence Life Underwriters Association.
  He is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Florence, South Carolina.
