Note:   Luther grew up on the family farm, but at age 17 he left and moved to Macon, Georgia to get employment. In 1898, he started working as an apprentice mechanic for the Central Railroad of Georgia.
  A few years later he met and courted Augusta ("Gussie") Rosa Moore, who was living in Macon with her aunt, Rosa Knox. Luther and Gussie were married and built their home at 840 Courtland Avenue. They gave birth to six children: Thomas, Myrtle, Margaret, Thelma, Luther, Jr., and Mary.
  Luther became interested in politics and was very prominently active. He served several years as the City Superintendent of Macon. He and his many friends there often went on deep sea fishing trips to Savannah, GA and to Cuba.
  Luther is listed in 1899 City Directory for Macon, GA. He works at Central Railroad shops, and boards at 607 Plum.

  In 1906 he worked for Seaboard [Railway] as a master mechanic and worked there for 18 years until the depression. Then a lot of the southern railroads began going out of business. The family left Macon and moved to St. Louis, Missouri.
  In 1924 Luther started working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a machinist in the "round house." He made the cover of the company magazine in February 1934. He worked there until his retirement.
  Upon the early death of his daughter, Myrtle, he took his granddaughter, Dorothy, into his home. He later adopted her legally.
  He had joined the Masonic Order in Macon and he remained active in St. Louis. He graduated through all 32 degrees of the order and was a "past master." he was very proud of this and also of being a Shriner.
  Gussie died in 1963 of rheumatism complications.
  Luther died one year later of heart failure and was laid to rest next to his beloved Gussie. They are buried in Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
