Note: JACK THOMPSON Posted on 15.JUL.09 Jack Earl Thompson, 78, resident of 106 W. Northside Drive, widower of Jo Lynn Rice Smith Thompson, died July 12, 2009 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Abbeville County, February 8, 1931, he was a son of the late William E. and Gertrude Langston Thompson. He was a US Army Veteran and retired as weaving superintendent from Greenwood Mills-Adams Plant. A member of Harris Baptist Church and the Berean Sunday School Class of the church, he was also a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge, Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club and the Nine O�clock Dance Club. Mr. Thompson was twice married, first to the late Barbara Jean Nickles Thompson. Surviving are two sons, Tony E. Thompson and D. Terry Thompson, both of Hodges; a step-daughter, Laurie S. Menard of Greenwood and two step-sons, Doug Smith and Mike Smith, both of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Brock Sterling Thompson and Tanner Calvert Thompson and a step-grandchild, Matthew Menard. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Thomas and Mr. Otto McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dave Free, Bill McCollum, Derrick Busby, Gerald Sartain, Brock Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Lang Nickles and Cory Nickles. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harris Baptist Church, 300 Center Street, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
