 From tree of Karen Grubaugh:
"The Martins of Matin's Mill" p. 36 "Phaeris Martin and wife, without the state. Sale of estate 1846 [father's estate] by David Porter, administrator. Son of John Martin."
From Joe Barksdale who visited the grave site of John Martin. "We searched for the grave sites and visited with Mrs. Silvers who is 87 years old and her daughter. Seven generations of Mrs. Silver ['s family] grew up in this house. We enjoyed listening to her stories. Mrs. Silver told this one story: She first heard when she was a small child. Pherris Martin had a lot of money and a lot of slaves. One morning he took a clave in the wagon with a large iron pot full og money back to the grave site. When Pherris came back there was no slave and no iron pot. Many people have gone back in that area and dug for the iron pot."
