 Henry Bracknal, 14, b. 1836
 James Bracknal, age 12, = 1838
 ------
I believe that Mordecai, Henry and James that I have listed as a son of William McKinney are the children of Mary Bracknal and her first husband, and some of them may have changed their name to McKinney after Mary married William McKinney. William McKinney refers to Mordecai as his Son in his Last Will and Testament.

Email from Peggy McKinney, April 11, 2005 in response to my letter to her.
 Hi Carole,
Yes William McKinney was married to his wife Elizabeth (who was supposedly
insane) for a good many years. He had three daughters by Elizabeth and they
were always noted as Mordecai's sisters. William md Mrs Mary "Polly"
Bracknel in Edgefield on 8 Jun 1855. She was listed as Mrs Bracknel, tho the
family says she was not married, so that may have been a courtesy title.
Anyway Mordecai's Bible gave his parents and their death dates and William's
will named the children by his first wife and then the ones by his second
wife. By the way his (William's) will was probated because the Beagle
brought suit against Mordecai for not probating it when his mother died.
I have not worked much on genealogy this year as I have had a lot of
problems with my mother's health and my husband's. So I have not been able
to do as much as I would like. But I am always glad to hear from you and
 will try to answer.
  Peggy

Peggy, did you notice that in 1850 Mordecai McKinney was a Bracknel, along
with Henry and James. They were living with their mother, Mary Bracknel.
I wonder if there was an adoption by William McKinney, adopting those three
children and they changed their names to McKinney? Any help from y
this would be greatly appreciated. Hope everything is going well with
you and your family. Please let me hear from you. Carole in Catawba, SC
