Notes
a. Note:   SOURCE: Ancestor Chart from Sandra Thompson Burkhart. The Ancestor Chart shows a Dolline T. Wilson, 267 Lavender Road, NW, Rome, Georgia 30165, dated January 24, 1997 as the Compiler of this Ancestor Chart.
  NEW INFORMATION:
 July 3, 2000
We received the Death Certificate of William Ernest Thompson and on it was listed as his father: Wylie Asbury Thompson and his mother as Frances Gunter.
 ------
  UPDATE: July 19, 2000:
JAMES WILEY THOMPSON was his name, no doubt in our mind now. An error was made in the Death Certificate of William Ernest Thompson when Emory said his father's name was WILEY ASBURY THOMPSON. I still question why Emory gave the wrong information on his grandfather!
PENSION RECORDS: Applied for Pension on August 27, 1903.
He gave his name and address as: JAMES W. THOMPSON, Constantine, Georgia, Jackson County, Georgia. He stated he had resided in the State of Georgia since 1866. He stated that he was born February 11, 1840 in Haywood County, North Carolina. He stated that he enlisted in the summer of 1861 at Chattanooga, Tennessee in Company B, 1st Tennessee Calvary. He remained with the company for 4 years, until surrender and that he was with the Company when it surrendered near Lynchburg, Virginia on 9th April 1865. He stated that since the War, he had been a farmer. For purposes of the pension application, he gave his situation as being infirm for about 7 years, that his lungs were badly affected, that he could do nothing in the winter, suffered from rheumatism in Spring and Summer and that his eyes were very weak. He stated that he owned nothing of value, but that he had for some years owned a cow and an old horse, but that he had sold them for his support. He stated that he had lived in Hall and Jackson Counties in 1894 to 1902. He gave his wife as his family, said they had no homestead or property and that she was 45 years old. There was a witness questionnaire from a W. H. Thompson (this may be Haywood/Heyward Thompson), who stated he lived in Gillsville in Hall County and that he had known J.W. Thompson all his life. (This does sound like a brother). He confirmed that James had lived in Jackson County since 1865 and said that he enlisted in 1861 in Hamilton County, Tennessee (which is Chattanooga), in Company B of the 1st Tennessee Calvary. He said he was in the same company and was also there at surrender. He said he had known James "intimately" for years and that he had always been poor. A physician's affidavit was given by John G. Elder and S.J. Smith, who had examined James W. Thompson and gave his condition as "suffers from chronic rheumatism, habitual indigestion, chronic cough and general debility from age, rendering him unable to earn a support". This was dated August 27, 1903. He was granted the pension and apparently received it until his death. There is an Application for Pension Due Deceased Soldier filed by his widow on February 12, 1916. She stated that he died January 26, 1916, and that she had married him on March 21, 1899. He was living on Route #3, in Homer, Banks County, Georgia when he received his last Pensio
Karen Ledford told me today, June 12, 2000, that she had him listed in her book under the Unity Christian Church as J.W. Thompson. She is not certain that he is buried there as there are a lot of "unmarked" stones, and Frances C. and her baby, who was born a month before she died, are buried there.
Sharon Moody told me that Wylie's brother, Haywood/Heyward Thompson (His name is HAYWOOD, per Helen Pauline Thompson,) raised Meredith Asbury Thompson after Frances died and later, David Thompson took him in.
A JAMES WILEY THOMPSON was in the Civil War. This is his War Record: Company B of the 1st Tennessee Cavalry, applied for pension in Jackson County, Georgia. Wrote to Archives in Atlanta June 23, 2000 to see if they had pension records. See above.
