Note: On this group sheet the Helen Thompson sent to me, it says: "Spelling of "Wiley" was changed to "Wylie", because one of his teachers told him that the spelling was wrong. He was named for his two grandfathers, James Wiley Thompson and Ervin Alexander Loggins. WYLIE ALEXANDER THOMPSON Mr. Wylie Alexander Thompson, age 100 of 2 Three Mile Road, died Friday morning, December 1, 2000, in a local health care facility. Mr. Thompson was born in Jackson County on February 19, 1900, the son of the late Meredith Asbury and Lou Loggins Thompson. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1941, having moved here from Commerce. Prior to retirement in 1965, Mr. Thompson was associated with Berry College for 24 years as the Store Manager at Boys High School. He was a member of Vann's Valley United Methodist Church. His wife, Pauline Ada Dodd Thompson, to whom he was married August 12, 1923, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Thompson in 1937 and a daughter, Wilma Nichols in 1969. Mr. Thompson is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dolline and Ed Wilson of Rome; six grandchildren; Roger Nichols, Myra Hicks, Donna Fondren, Debbie Parson, Bob Wilson and Diane Barton. 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Graveside and interment services for Mr. Thompson will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Commerce, with the Rev. Virginia Courtney and the Rev. Neil Nichols officiating. Mr. Thompson will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends this evening from 5 until 7. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence of his daughter, 367 Lavender Road, Rome. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Wylie Alexander Thompson.
