G. Loggins, Sr. "I was borned in Forsythe County, near Keith's Ferry, now Keith's Bridge, on May the 24th, 1881. My father moved to Jackson County when I was about 4 years old to a place near Maysville, on the Oconee river. Our corn was ruined by high water, he then moved to Holly Springs community, an on May the 5th my mother died, this was in 1891, I felt like I was ruined, and I was almost, for I have missed her so much all these years. I have a feeling for a boy without a mother. In 1903 we moved near Jefferson, and lived there 2 years. Then we moved near Nicholson, and lived there 7 years. In 1908 I found the girl I loved more than anybody, and in June 14, 1908, we married, and have been fighting lifes battles together, the way has been pretty touch, but we have tried to share our troubles together. There was borned to us 10 children, 4 boys and 6 girls, we lost our oldest girl and our youngest boy. We moved away from Nicholson the fall of 1912, we lived in Commerce and surrounding country 14 years, in September 1925, I took Pa and my step mother to care for through their last days, my step mother, died Oct. 12th, Pa lived till Feb. 17th 1926. Then in the fall of that same year we moved to the Center Grove community, near Holly Springs, where I was raised, and where I joined the Center Grove Baptist Church, in Aug. 1902. In the fall of 1929, we moved near Jefferson to what is known as the Possum Creek community, there we helped to organize and carry on a Bible Class, I was elected teacher and held that place for nearly 4 years, Then we moved to Braselton, where we tried to carry on a Bible Class but did not have much cooperation, and did not carry on very long, so we carried our work to Sharon Baptist Church, there we had prayer meeting, and was teacher in the Sunday School, with right good success for 2 years. Then in the fall of 1937 we moved to near Nicholson, there we had great success in carrying on Sunday School and Singing. On Sept. 9th 1942 I was operated on at Emory Hospital for cancer, coming home unable to work, and with little hope of ever getting able, and Owen having to go to the Army, just left Ida Belle and Annie Lou at home, they both left to go to work, Ida Belle went to Winder, Ga. and Annie Lou went to Abbeville S.C. So there was but one thing for us to do, and that was for us to go with one of them, so we came to Winder. Ida Belle soon left us and went to Gainesville, and we have been here alone. I haven't been able to work very much, in Sept. 1945 I was stricken down with something, the Dr's never knew what, and was in bed 5 month's and havent been very stroung since. Now one of my ears has gone bad. I can't hear out of it, and gives me a lot of trouble. I realize that every time any thing gets wrong with me I get weaker, Realizing this I say with the one of old. Remember now thy Creator in the days of the youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. For man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets; Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return to God who gave it. Written Sunday, April 13th, 1947, E. G. Loggins, Sr."
