This was the first and only time Joe got served as the Director of Photography (DP) on a project. The lack of opportunities as a DP was due to his mastery as a camera operator. Joe was always working so he never got opportunities to serve as a DP. His son Steven recalls that at the age of 10 the first production set his father took him on was for the T.V. show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea."
