Notes
a. Note:   A lengthy article on Thomas Usher appeared in the May 1896 (volume 1, number 4) edition of "The Border Magazine". This gives a lot of information about his life (for example his founding and acting as Secretary of the Edinburgh Border Counties Association), and also included information about the Usher family - probably supplied by Thomas himself, who wrote an account of the family ("The Usher Family of Darnick" - reprinted in the 1956 Usher book). After Thomas's death an obituary appeared in "The Border Magazine" in 1902, largely summarising the material of the earlier article.
The copy of the orginal "Usher Family of Darnick" by Thomas Usher, at the Selkirk Scottish Borders Archive is stamped July 1893.
b. Note:   HI224
Note:   (Research):IGI also lists an Eliza McFarlane Usher who was born 21/7/1871. This could be a mistake and should be Anne Gray, or could be a twin sister.
