Notes
a. Note:   Janet, or Jess/Jessie as she was known, was according to her brother Andrew (in his 1855 narrative - see 1956 Usher book) "the mother of fourteen children" [I have found details of 13 so far: was there a 14th who perhaps died soon after birth, maybe between the two Jessies?]
Andrew describes how Jess's husband lost most of his money, and thus when he died left Jess and the children in a poor financial state. However Andrew added that "They, his [William's] family, have fortunately been relieved by a large sum left by Archibald, the youngest son, who went out to China where he died and left all his property to his mother and sisters.".
Jessie's place of death is revealed on her death certificate (reference 1866, 685/5, number 30) which records she died at 27 Gilmore Place, Edinburgh; + her husband's occupation as spirit merchant + the informant was her daughter Kate Stewart.
