a. Note:   A letter from Willy's father to George Leslie on 15 July 1869 says that Willy stands 5ft 11� inches, he will be 16 in Sept.
  It can be seen that William was a well traveled man. He gave a lecture on 20 Dec 1884, at the Tyncastle Temperance Society, about his tour of Switzerland and Italy the previous summer. There are also photographs in the possession of Romney Nevile Usher showing Dorothy, his daughter when a young woman in Switzerland. He also traveled extensively to Norway and collected many artifacts - some of which are in the possession of John Brian Usher. He and his daughter also wrote a letter to his wife Margaret Louisa while she was in Italy. The letter is not dated, but the address is 10 Minster Yard, indicating a date between 1894 and 1901.
