Title: Church Memorial, Stapylton line
Text: In and about this North Aisle, formerly the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, lie eleven generations of the family of Stapilton who purchased this Manor A.D. 1376. Some of whose names are written below, derived from testamentary and other evidence. I. Sir William Stapilton, Knight, who restored and enlarged this Churchand was buried in 1503; and his two wives, Margaret and Joan. II. Sir Brian Stapilton, Knt. 1518; and his wife Joan. III. Cristofer Stapilton, Esq., 1537; and his wife Alice. IV. Sir Robert Stapilton, Knight, died 1557. V. Sir Robert Stapilton, Knight, died 1606. VI. Bryan Stapylton of Myton, 1658, brother to henry Stapilton of Wighill, Esq., who was buried in London. VII. Robert Stapilton, Esq., 1634, son of henry: and his sister Isabell. VIII. Sir Miles Stapilton of Wighill and Armley, Knight, died 1668; henry Stapilton, Esq., 1673; his Cousin, henry Stapilton, Esq., 1723; Philip Stapilton, Esq., 1729, and Margaret his wife, 1743. All Lords of this Manor in succession. IX. Henry Stapilton, (son of Philip) who died 1725, in the lifetime of his father; and Ann his wife died 1761. X. Henry Stapilton of Wighill, Esquire, died 1746; and his brother Philip, 1783. XI. Henry Stapilton of Wighill, Esquire, died 1779; and Harriot his wife, 1791; and his brother Philip, 1768. \lang1033
