Notes
a. Note:   An account of Thomas and his family and ancestors appears in Tancred's "Rulewater and its people" (see the notes for Thomas's grandfather John Usher). The birthdate here is taken from the tombstone at Melrose, but Scots Origins lists a birthdate of 24th January - that may just possibly be a christening date - or one (or both) of the two dates may be wrong.
Thomas inherited Eildon but later sold it.
