 Thomas Usher
  Extracts from Kirk Session Minutes of Hawick Free Church (the Protesting Church) dated 3rd December 1845.
  "There was admitted to membership Thomas Usher, Farmer, Courthill from Established Church, Cavers and Jane Usher, his wife, from Free Church, Edinburgh."
  Thomas Usher was elected an Elder 6 April 1853 his district being "the Country District to the east of the town and on the north side of Teviot"
  Mr Usher was a Commissioner at the 1865 General Assembly.
  Mr Usher retired 22 November 1885. "The Session resolved in consideration of the long period during which Mr.Usher, Senr. had been in connection with the Church and of the great service he had rendered to the Congregation during the 32 years he had worthily held the office of Elder that Messrs Blaikie and Miller be appointed a deputation to wait upon him to express the Sessions' regret and loving sympathy with him now far advanced in years and most fervent prayer that the God of all Grace may make what remains of life days of heaven upon earth and at last admit him in full assurance of faith into His heavenly Kingdom."

  "The Session desire to record in their Minutes their deep and lasting sense of thankfulness to God for Thomas Usher, James Miller and Adam Scott, men of earnest piety, abundant in prayer and good works."
  Thomas Usher Jr. left the Congregation Nov.1885.
