Note: Son of Timothy Tibbetts Ridlen and Sarah Wright was born on July 3, 1813, in Clermont County, Ohio, died March 18, 1898, at Knoxville, Iowa. He is buried in the Ridlen Cemetery, near Knoxville. When quite young, he emigrated, with his parents, from Ohio to the new land in Dearborn County, Indiana. Here he resided for a number of years, married, and started his family. When the new land in Marion County, Iowa, opened, he, with his parents, brothers and sisters, went there. This was his last emigration. He became a farmer and stockman in Marion County, in Section 21. In 1846 he enlisted in the Third Indiana Volunteers and saw service in the war with Mexico. His three brothers, Samuel, Joseph and John also served in this war, from which they were honorably discharged. in August of 1862, as Captain Ridlen, he organized Company F, 40th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. This was made up principally of Marion County men, many of whom were relatives. They saw service at the Battle of Vicksburg, Little Rock and many others. From this war most returned. His real estate consisted of 339 acres. He was closely identified with the Methodist Church. He, with James McWalters and Charles Burham, were elected to prepare and submit a charter for the City of Knoxville, Iowa, to have ready for the voters in April, 1854.
