From a history of Marion County, Iowa:
Farmer and stock raiser of Sect. 28, P.O. Bethel City, among the old settlers of Marion County, Iowa He was born in Dearborn County, Indiana, where he lived until he was seven years old when he moved with his parents to Decatur County, Indiana, There he lived until February 1848 when he moved to Marion County, Iowa and settled near the present site of Bethel City.   Aunt Estella (Ridlen) Ford writes, "I recall Grandfather Ridlen's home in Marion County for we lived in part of the home when sister Edith was born. Then we lived in Marion County when brother Maynard was born. We left Marion County when I was 5 years or close. I can remember Grandpa Ridlen bouncing us little ones on his knee. Grandmother Ridlen lived many years afterwards with different one of her daughters; she was a sweet person."
