Notes
a. Note:   I have just discovered you on the Net! Maybe now I can FINALLY find further help or information on my Rahill ancestors from Thurles, Tipperary. If it requires joining the Tipperary Historical Society, I could do that, but meanwhile I'd like to pose my questions, and maybe you can give me guidance. So far, I've traced back to my 5-greats grandfather, William Rahill, (1742-January 10, 1810) in Tipperary. He and wife, Joanna (died April 18, 1825), are buried at the Killinan Cemetery. Their son, Timothy Rahill, (died February 5, 1844) of Tipperary is also buried there with them, I think, since the gravestone bears all three names. Timothy was married to Mary Mockler. Timothy's son, William (Christened December 9, 1799 at Thurles) married Mary Fanning February 18, 1835 at Drom. I believe that William and Mary emigrated to America during the famine in 1849. In his naturalization record (for American citizenship) in Ohio, it states, "Arrived in U.S. November 1849." I think that they emigrated with their children: Timothy, Edmund, Mary, Judith, Michael, William, Joseph, and James. Their son Edmund (Christened September 24, 1837 at Thurles) was my great-great grandfather. He married (in America) Mary Welsh (born May 1835 in Ireland). I have requested searches through the National Archives in Washington, D.C. for any record of William and Mary and their family on ships passenger lists arriving in 1849 at any/all the U.S. eastern seaports, but with no record found. Since they settled in Cleveland, Ohio, I would suspect that they may have sailed for New York. My main quest is to find this ship, the dates, and subsequently the story of their journey from Thurles to America. (I've even tried contacting the station at Grosse Ille in Canada, but apparently the records aren't that old.) Secondly, I immediately noticed on your Web page the name of Chairman Martin Maher. I have written to many American Mahers (to no avail) regarding Killinan Cemetery. A Tipperary genealogist, Mr. W.J. Hayes of the Roscrea Heritage Centre has suggested to me in a detailed and helpful letter (1991) that my 5-greats grandfather William Rahill's wife Joanna may have been a Maher since the Maher names are prominent in that cemetery. Also of note is that Honour Maher was a sponsor at the christening of my emigrant ancestor, William Rahill of Grange, at the Thurles Parish December 9, 1799. Do you have any suggestions for me? Are there any records searchable on the Net?
