 To Whom It May Concern:
This is to certify that I have personally known Cecil Hunt for more than fifty years and that he has never been convicted of a felony or sent to the penitentiary during all that time. He has been a peaceable and law abiding citizen during all that time.
Very sincerely, A.P. Bolding Former County Judge of Fannin County, Texas BIRTHDAY DINNER HONORS PIONEER LEONARD SETTLER
Leonard, Texas August 19, 1969 - A birthday here recently honored Cecil Hunt, 90 year old pioneer settler.
Attending were Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hunt of Sherman, Rev. and Mrs. Rayburn Rushing and Gene, Tim and Joe and Jessie Dawson (all of Plano); Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Rushing of Madill, Okla.; Mrs. Lucille Gibson of Ft. Smith, Ark.; and Mrs. May Rushing of Leonard.
Friend's called at Hunt's home here. He received congratulatory phone calls and telegrams from across the nation, including one greeting from Love Womack, a former Leonard resident now living in California.
Hunt has lived near Leonard 77 years. He and his family journed from Kansas in a covered wagon, the trek requiring 44 days. The family first settled near Katy railroad in Blanton Chapel community.
Hunt recalled Leonard was in darkness after the sun went down and later a few lanterns were installed on posts around the city square. Six doctors in Leonard answered calls either on foot or horseback.
At the family farm west of here, the Hunts hosted big log rolling parties. The family would cut down trees and on the big day neighbors came in to start big log fires. After lighting up the sky, neighbors were treated to a big dinner feed.
Today Hunt recalled that as a boy he never dreamed that dirt roads would become motorized highways near the old home place.
