Johann Nepomuk CZECH: Death: 9 Feb 1853 in Marienbad,,Czech
| a. |
Note: dress). !SURNAME: Don't know why his name was spelled LECH and his father's was spelled LYNCH. Later, on the christening record of Vincenz's first son, his father's surname was spelled LECH. ! Jakub Smid, researher, found his name as CZECH on his marriage record; his father's also spelled Czech; as of 1 Jun 2007. ! Tony, at [email protected], emailed me and correction that he had sent before, having read Vincenz's surname as Lech, as I did. He corrected it and said it is written as "C'ech", and his father's surname spelled "Czech." He says, "It is misterious that was used (the C'ech spelling) the Czech form of surname in region where people spoked German and the German form of surname (Czech) in Plzen where people spoked Czech. Tony sent a photo of Vincenz's marriage record and of Vincenz's birth record. !BIRTH: Tony, at [email protected], emailed me the birth of Vincenz, from the register of the parish Plzen, #9, page 315. Date of birth: 26th Sep 1823; place of birth: Plzen #213; Child: Vincentius; Father: Jan Czech coachman in Plzen; Mother: Katharina, mourner daughter after + Krystof POESL, sinior shoemaker in Dolni Lukavice and of mother + Katharina nee HAJEK from Trnci, manor Chudenice. Godparents: Kock Vinzenz burger's son from Plzen and Magdalena Sswendowa wife of burger and senior weaver in Plzen. "Notice: The baptismal certificate issued on 25th Sep 1852 (wedding) and the duplicate on 10th Jan 1855 (emigration)." !MARRIAAGE: Book 3, Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) church records, marriages. His surname was spelled LECH, and his father's name spelled LYNCH ! Jacub Smid, researcher, also found this record and translated Vincenz's surname as CZECH. So the immigration record (below) would be "our" Vincenz!! Witnesses to his marriage were Mathiaus Muller (umlaut over the "u"), master joiner of Marienbad, and Philipp Herchl, house keeper in Marienbad. ! His marriage record reads: GROOM: Vincenz Czech, shoemaker, legitimate son of Johann Czech, burger of Pilsen and of Katharina nee Poesl of Lukawitz [Lukavice], imperial and royal administrative and judicial district of Pilsen. Catholic, 29 years old, single [in Plzen #213]. BRIDE: Anna Utschig, legitimate daughter of Johann Utschig, house owner and master shoemaker in Marienbad, and of Elisabeth nee Schuser [sic; later scribe corrected it to Schicker] of Marinbad, imperial and royal administrative district of Plan [Plana], judicial district of Tepl. Catholic, 24 years old, single [born Marienbad]. WITNESSES: Mathiaus Mueller, master joiner of Marienbad and Philipp Herchl [or Lerchl], house keeper in Marienbad. [Jakub Smid also found this record and translated it.] ! Also, another person, Tony, at [email protected], emailed me copies of Vincenz and Anna's marriage records, and translated them for me. It is the same as what Jakub Smid also looked up for me. But he spelled the surname of the witness Phillipp as LERCHL; Jakub translated it as HERCHL !IMMIGRATION: Found the following on the Immigrants Shipping website (www.immigrantships.net/): Ship "Bark Lina" from Bremen to New York, 17 Aug 1854: Passenger #18, Vinzenz CZECH, age 30 (figures out to be born about 1824), from Bohemia, Marienbad, shoemaker; Passenger #19, Anna CZECH, age 26 (figures she was born 1828), from Bohemia, Marienbad; and child, passenger #246 (put all the children in one place on this ships list) M. CZECH, age 6 months (which would make her born Feb 1854). This list didn't give the sex of anyone, but assume the "M" was probably for Minnie or Millie, usually a nickname for Amalia. District of New York, Port of New York. ! On this same ship as Vincenz, was Joseph GOELLER, passenger #179, from Einsiedl, Bohemia, weaver. (I don't remember the name Goeller, but there was the surname Koehler or Hoehler from Einsiedl. Maybe this Joseph was actually a Koehler/Hoehler.) !OTHER: At Castle Garden's website, there were two other families and a single woman with the surname of Czech who came from Bohemia. I will put them here in case they are connected to Vincenz somehow. ! (1) Czech, FRANZ, age 37, arrived 3 Oct 1857 in New York; origin = Bohemia; Port = Bremen, destination = Iowa; on the ship "Agnes." Also on the same ship, same time, same destination were: CHATARINA, age 27; MARIE, 11 months, weaver; and ROSALIE, age 19, weaver; JOHANN, age 31 weaver ! (2) Czech, FRANZ, farmer, age 41, arrived 2 Sep 1861, New York; Port = Bremen; origin = Bohemia; destination = Minnesota; ship = "Atlantis." Also on this same ship, same date, same destination, were: FRANZ, age 7, from Bohemia, youngster; KATHARINE, age 10, youngster, from Bohemia; MARIA, farmer, age 18, from Bohemia; MARIA, farmer, age 38, from Bohemia; MATHIAS, age 9, youngster, from Bohemia; ROSALIA, farmer, age 13, from Bohemia; BARBARA, farmer, age 15, from Bohemia. (The father's occupation I think was put by his wife's/children's names so they would be connected to the same family. Only a guess.) ! (3) Czech, ROSALIE, age 20, unknown occupation, arrived 5 Dec 1866, from Bohemia; port = Bremen, last residence = Maelzich; destination = St. Louis; ship "Leocadia." !CITY DIRECTORIES: The New York City Directory, 1859, page 194: Vincent Czech, shoes, h. 80 W. 17th [Street? or Avenue?].
