  ! In the San Francisco Chronicle, Tuesday, 22 Aug 1905, p. 11, column 4, in "The City in Brief" section, it reads: "Mrs. Kate Utschig, mother of Mrs. Huter [sic], who shot her husband to death in San Jose, died at the German Hospital yesterday of natural causes."
  ! In the same newspaper, page 13, column 7, her obituary reads: "UTSCHIG. In this city [San Francisco], August 21 [1905], Catherine, dearly beloved wife of John Utschig, and loving mother of Mrs. Kate A. Hueter, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown and John L. and William G. Utschig, a native of Milwaukee, aged 53 years, 3 months and 4 days."
  ! On Thursday, August 24, 1905, page 10, column 7, "UTSCHIG." (same notice as above with the following added): "Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 24, at 10:30 o'clock, at the parlor of H.F. Suhr & Co., 1137 Mission St., between Seventh and Eighth. Interment private."

In the San Francisco Call newspaper, Tuesday, August 22, 1905, p. 9, is an article entitled "Grief Causes Mother's Death - Mrs. John Utschig Dies of Broken Heart Because of Her Daughter's Trouble - CHILD IS AT BEDSIDE - Mrs. Gustav Hueter is Present When Parent Passes Away at German Hospital." In this article it says she died of a cerebral hemorrhage, "but it is whispered that the true cause was a broken heart. .... Her husband, her two sons and Mrs. Hueter were at the bedside when death came.. .... She had been a sufferer from rheumatism for years. .... Mrs. Utschig was 52 years old and a native of Milwaukee, Wis. Her husband, John Utschig, is a member of nearly all the prominent German societies and one of the best shots on the coast. Mrs. Utschig was prominent because of her generosity." This gives a little insite as to the kind of woman Catherine Rheude Utschig was--kind, generous and loving.
