Note: Duke of Florence & Tuscany.
Alessandro (son of Clement VII):
It was said that Alessandros mother was a negress or mulatto, a supposition borne out by the somewhat negroid features of the young Alessandro which gave him his nickname the Moor. It is probable that his mother was an oridnary peasant woman from the area around Rieta named Simonetta, who was
in the service of Alfonsina Orsini (married to Piero de Medici) during the long period that she lived in Rome. Subsequently she married and finding herself in abject poverty, she wrote a pathetic letter to Alessandro, signing herself "your dear mother Simonetta". But the young ruler of Florence, perhaps ashamed of his origins, did not lift a finger to help her.
Hope this helps,
