Thomas, Elaine E. MINERAL POINT - Elaine E. (Johnson) Thomas, age 79, of Mineral Point, died with dignity and determination on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center, Dodgeville after an extended illness. Elaine was born on July 29, 1928, in Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison, the daughter of Howard S. and Olive J. (Tyson) Johnson of rural Lafayette County, and graduated from Darlington High School. She married Jack L. Thomas on June 14, 1946, in the Methodist Parsonage, Belmont, and they farmed in the Darlington and Mineral Point areas until moving to the city of Mineral Point in 1957. She worked for more than 30 years in the Mineral Point School District serving as a teacher's aid, secretary for the superintendent of schools, and secretary to the elementary school principal and faculty. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed many crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed the annual summer vacations with extended family members at Clam Lake in northern Wisconsin. Elaine and Jack were avid trailer campers and had many fun outings at area campgrounds; especially with their close friends, Bob and Barb Brown and the "Brown Girls": Kris, Denise, Cory, Lori and Leann. Elaine was a member of the Pleasant View Homemakers Club, Mineral Point Lionesses, and the Mary Circle of the Mineral Point First United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated caregiver to her mother and to her father-in-law in their later years. She was a selfless, humble and hard-working person who found great joy in the activities and accomplishments of her family and friends. Elaine is survived by her husband, Jack of Bloomfield Manor Nursing Home; four sons, David (Lynda) and Russell (Sue) Thomas of Madison, Steven (Patti) Thomas of Mineral Point, and Mark (Kelly Gundlach) Thomas of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren, Tristan (Erika) Thomas, Carrie (Steven Wink) Thomas-Wink and Melissa Thomas, Cheri (Kurt) Grover and Jason (Amanda) Thomas, and Megan, Becky and Adam Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Cortney and Katie Wagner; five great-grandchildren, Elsie Thomas, Abbie and Cambrie Wink, and Jack and Hannah Grover; a brother, Harold Johnson of Darlington; three sisters-in-law, Mae Ross of South Haven, Mich., Dorothea Iverson of Payson, Ariz., and Carol Thomas of Dodgeville; a brother-in-law, Donald Thomas of Dodgeville; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald P. Johnson; an infant daughter, Beverly J. Thomas; her parents; her parents-in-law, Everett and Sophia Thomas; three brothers-in-law, Jerrold Thomas, Jack Ross and Larry Iverson; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Mineral Point. The Rev. Mary Anne Conklin will officiate. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at the GORGEN FUNERAL HOME in Mineral Point, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.
