 Mae Grace Ross, age 87, of South Haven, Mich., died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich. Mae was born on May 4, 1921, to Everett and Sophia (Gratz) Thomas in Mineral Point. She worked for the Rock County Courthouse as a secretary for 20 years, retiring in 1983. Mae married James Humbert on Sept. 20, 1943, in Belmont. James died in 1982. Mae then married John "Jack" Ross in 1986. Jack died in 1997. Mae loved crossword puzzles and reading. Mae also enjoyed traveling and her family. She was a member of the Waldwick United Methodist Church in Waldwick and she also attended the Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville. She was preceded in death along with her parents; by her husbands, James Humbert and Jack Ross; and three brothers, Donald Thomas, Jack Thomas and Jerrold Thomas. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Werner of Payson, Ariz., Mary (Jim) Harpold of South Haven, Mich., Vicki (Gary) Gransee of Sturgeon Bay, and Susan (Steve) Roeber of Milton; a sister, Dorothy Iverson of Payson, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Carol Thomas of Dodgeville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild also survives. Graveside service will be scheduled at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point. Memorial contributions can be made to Susan Koman Breast Cancer Research.
