Note: Jennie (Roberts) Ethridge Death Notice and Obituary Newspaper Articles, published shortly after March 28, 1939 Unknown Newspaper Death Notice Mrs. John Etheridge, aged 86 years, died in Darlington, Tuesday, March 28, 1939. Funeral services will be held Thursday, march 30, at the Nelson Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. An obituary will appear in this paper next week. Obituary Mrs. John Ethridge Jennie Roberts was born in Buffalo, N. Y., Jan. 8, 1853, the daughter of Samuel and Louisa Roberts, and died at her home in Darlington, Wisconsin, March 28, 1939, at the age of 86 years, two months and twenty days, after a lingering illness. She came to Wisconsin when about two years of age, where she grew to womanhood. On March 26, 1879, she was united in marriage to John Ethridge, they having spent the 60th wedding anniversary together. The deceased leaves to mourn, her husband and one adopted son, Will Ethridge of Eldora, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Bert Matthias, Medford, Wis.; Mrs. C. B. Allen, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. John Morris, Darlington, Wis., and Mrs. Catherine Churchill, Beloit, Wis., besides a number of nieces and nephews. Deceased was a member of the M. E. Church and Sunday School where she took an active part in the work of the church until her health failed her. The funeral was held from the Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, services being conducted by Rev. Jeffrey, pastor of the M. E. Church. Interment was in the Union Grove cemetery. Mrs. Ethridge was a kind and loving wife and sister, a good neighbor and a loyal friend. Mr. Ethridge is deeply bereaved, as he himself has been in ill health for a long time. The many friends extend their deepest sympathy to him in his hour of bereavement.
