Johnson, 84, Darlington, died Sunday, May 5, 1985, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. He had been in failing health the past 18 months. Mr. Johnson was born in Willow Springs Township Nov. 21, 1900, the son of John and Adell Matley Johnson. He and Helen M. Duval were married Jan. 2, 1924 in the Baptist Church parsonage in Darlington. They farmed in the Darlington area until moving into Darlington in 1968 where he continued as a salesman for the Darlington Mutual Insurance Co. until he retired in 1977. He was a member of the Wardsville Primitive Methodist Church and the Boscobel Camp of the Gideon society. Survivors are his wife, Helen, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Chester (Ruth) Kamm, Dubuque; three sons, Dwaine, Darlington; David, Dodgeville; and Richard, Milton; a foster son John Malott, Darlington; four brothers, Clarence and Chester, Darlington; George, Lancaster; James, Calamine; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Loretta) Weber, Cuba City; Mrs. Fremont (Marie) Bennett; and Mrs. Fritz (Helen) Tuescher, Darlington; 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Darlington. Pastors officiating will be Robert H. Gill assisted by Mr. Johnson's grandson, Timothy M. Johnson, Plant City, Florida. burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington. Erickson Funeral Home, Darlington, was in charge.
