Note: Obituary Helen M. Johnson Republican Journal June 2, 1994 Page 16 Helen Mae Johnson, 89, Darlington, died Thursday, May 26, 1994, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, Darlington. She was born Jan. 14, 1905, in Lafayette County, the daughter of John and Ellen (Jacques) Duval. On Jan. 2, 1924, she married Dwight A. Johnson at the Baptist Church parsonage in Darlington. She lived and farmed in the Darlington area all her life, moving to the City of Darlington in 1968. Mr. Johnson died May 5, 1985. Helen was a member of the Wardsville Primitive Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid and Women's Missionary Society. She was a past Sunday school teacher. Helen was also active in many church committees and supported many missionaries. She was active in the Gideon Society. She loved her family and enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening. She was widely known for her hospitality. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Chester) Kamm, Dubuque, Iowa; three sons, Dwaine (Bess) Johnson, Darlington; David (Sandra) Johnson, Dodgeville; Dick (Sue) Johnson, Milton; a foster son, John (Aliene) Malott, Darlington; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, May 30, 1994, at the First Baptist Church in Darlington. Rev. Timothy M. Johnson, grandson, and Pastor Robert Gill co-officiated. Burial was in Union Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nick Johnson, Paul Johnson, Mark Kamm, Bill Johnson, Terry Malott and Roger Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were: Randy Kamm, Rod Kamm, Don Johnson, Terry Johnson, Tom Johnson, Doug Johnson, Todd Johnson, Pete Johnson and Denny Malott. The Erickson Funeral Home, Darlington, was in charge of arrangements.
