DARLINGTON - Chester R. Johnson, age 73, of Darlington, passed away on Monday, January 8, 1990, at his home. He was born in Darlington Township on February 5, 1916, the son of John and Effie (Matley) Johnson. He was married on October 21, 1942, in Darlington, to Thelma I. Jackson. He lived in the Darlington area all of his life. After his discharge from the Army he farmed for many years, after which he worked at the Darlington Milling Company and as a groundskeeper at the Darlington Golf and Country Club for a number of years. Surviving are his wife Thelma of Shullsburg; a son, Harley; and a daughter, Linda, (Mrs. Daniel) Kerkman, both of Madison; a brother, James "Doc" Johnson of Mineral Point; three sisters, Loretta Weber of Cuba City, Marie Bennett and Helen Tuescher, both of Darlington; and a granddaughter, Amanda Kerkman. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Howard, Dwight, Norman, Clarence, George and Charles; and a sister, Eva Duval. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington. He served in the army in WW II. Services will be held on Thursday, January 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Darlington, with Pastor Harvey N. Frye officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the ER1CKSON FUNERAL HOME in Darlington.
