 James J. "Doc" Johnson, 81, Calamine, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1992, at the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, Darlington.
 He was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Willow Springs Township, the son of John and Effie Adell (Matley) Johnson. On Feb. 4, 1931 he married Cora Elizabeth Bennett at the Methodist Parsonage in Darlington. Cora and Doc, along with Fremont Bennett and Marie Johnson Bennett, celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary Feb. 4,1992.
 "Doc" lived and farmed in Willow Springs Township for twenty-seven years and was a patrolman for Willow Springs Township for 16 years, retiring in 1979.
 He was a member of Wardsville Primitive Methodist Church, and also a past trustee of the church; a past Sunday school teacher and past officer of the Calamine Cheese Factory. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. "Doc" loved to reminisce and he also enjoyed his grandchildren.
 He is survived by his wife, Cora, at home; two sons: Kenneth B. (Donna L.) Calamine, James E. (Deborah) Calamine; one daughter: Sharon (Tom) Saunders, Machesney Park, Ill.; three sisters; Loretta Weber, Cuba City; Marie (Fremont) Bennett, and Helen (Fritz) Tuescher, both of Darlington; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
 Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1992, at the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington. The Rev. Robert H. Gill of the Wardsville Primitive Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in the Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington. The Erickson Funeral Home, Darlington, was in charge of arrangements.
 Honorary pallbearers were: Alden Olson, Stillie Weaver, Harold Kelly, LeRoy King, Pamela Owen, Donna Jean Wiegel, Melody Schild, Becky Johnson, Carrie Johnson, James Johnson Jr., Debra Johnson and Fritz Tuescher.
 Acting pallbearers were: Terry Rasmussen, Larry Paynter, Paul Hastert, Daniel Johnson, Wendy Zimmerman, Brenda Barnwell and Doreen Neilsen.
