Note: Roger worked the family farm with his father and Bill. Eventually he worked it alone, then with the help of his son Mark. He sold his milking herd in May 2004. Brother Roger was buried today [March 18, 2017] after a very nice gathering of family and friends. He was buried with full military honors which because of the storm had to be performed in the parking lot of the funeral home. One of the two ministers that spoke emphasized his farming life and background. After the service we followed the procession from Bairds Funeral Home in Wayland down thru Pokey Moon Shine road to the road the his farm was on. When we passed the farm where he had spent his entire life, the procession came to a halt in front of the farm (the undertakers idea) and then continued on to the Irwin Cemetery. Because of the storm, the cemetery was plowed only enough to get the hearse in, so the we all trouped back thru the ice and snow for the final prayers. Then, of course, it was onto the Methodist Church in Webster Crossing for a luncheon provided by family and the ladies of the church. All thru his ordeal in the last 7 and half months, he never complained. The ladies at the hospice said he was one of the best patients that they had ever had. We will miss him. - J. H.
