Henry Scofield died at his home in Plattville, Sunday evening, August 6, at 7 o'clock in the evening, after a lingering sickness of six years. He was a great sufferer and almost helpless the past two years. Henry as he was usually called, was born in Big Grove Township on November 1, 1852; was married to Narissia Williamson, December 16, 1874. She died January 31, 1891. To this union were born four children. They are Dean of Plattville, Mrs. Edith Hadley, Iowa, Earl of South Dakota and Clara, who died when about 16 years old. In 1897 deceased was married to Mrs. Etta Darlin, on November 21. To this union no children were born. His widow survives him. Mr. Scofield was a member of the M. W. A., who had charge of the funeral services held in the hall Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The officers of the lodge were pallbearers and Rev. E. S. Nicholas preached the sermon. Deceased had held important offices in this order when in good health. The flowers at the funeral were beautiful. Bouquets were sent by the Modern Woodmen, Royal Neighbors, the W. C. T. U. and pieces were given by the family and neighbors. The remembrances showed better than words in what manner the deceased was regarded by those who knew him.
